Something Special Has Happened At The National Animal Welfare Trust Centre In Berkshire
21st January 2010
Animals at the National Animal Welfare Trust’s Trindledown Farm Rescue Centre will become TV stars in March as the centre is featured on children’s television programme, ‘Something Special’.
The BBC camera crew, along with children’s presenter Justin Fletcher who plays Mr Tumble, who won a BAFTA in 2008 for ‘Best Children’s Presenter’, visited the centre in order to film examples of work carried out in animal rescue homes.
Something Special, which regularly airs on children's TV channel, CBeebies, is designed to teach children Makaton TM sign language, and is specifically aimed at children with learning and communication difficulties.
The Something Special crew filmed many of the NAWT’s animals including Coco the rabbit and Peaches the cat. Agility exercises were displayed by Terrier Cross, Misti. Justin was also filmed taking Staffie Cross Heidi for a walk.
The programme will be aired on the 19th March as one of the 20 minute episodes on CBeebies.
David Warner, Chief Executive of the National Animal Welfare Trust said: “the filming of Something Special at the NAWT centre was a fantastic opportunity, not only to bring awareness of life inside an animal rescue centre to younger children, but also to teach those with learning difficulties about different types of animals and how to care for them.”
The National Animal Welfare Trust was founded in 1971 and is the seventh largest animal welfare organisation in England.
On any one day NAWT cares for up to 500 animals, most of which are cats and dogs that urgently need a second chance at life with responsible new owners.
The Trust has 5 re-homing centres based in Berkshire, Essex, Cornwall, Somerset and the Home Counties (Watford).
The Trust is home to a wide variety of animals, mainly cats and dogs but also farm animals, horses, donkeys, poultry and short term rehabilitation of wildlife.
