Become Dolphin Chris's Friend

18th June 2010

Chris, the bottlenose dolphin, is looking for someone to adopt her and five of her “friends” to help support vital research work.

She has been spotted off Anglesey this year having previously been recorded heading south from Cemaes Head in Pembrokeshire last September so dolphin watchers were delighted when she re appeared in a lively group of leaping and breaching dolphins.

Chris, along with Topnotch, Flint, Tide, Nic Nic and Smoothy, is available for adoption through the conservation charity Sea Watch and its adopt a dolphin scheme (adoptadolphin.org.uk).

Adopters each receive a special welcome pack and monthly newsletters giving details of recent surveys and sightings. It was voted the BBC Wildlife Best Animal a Adoption scheme.

All money raised by the scheme is used to fund research which helps develop better conservation policies to protect marine mammals around the UK.
Sea Watch uses photo Id to identify individual whales and dolphins and track their progress.

Watchers spotted Chris earlier this year and it’s hoped that recent survey results will reveal more about the other five dolphins available for adoption.
Sea Watch’s research not only helps inform conservation policy makers but also increases understanding of marine mammal distributions, behaviour and habitats. It can detect trends and help identify causes for any decline or increases in species.
