Hard to rehome
Could You Give Two Orphaned Guinea Pigs A Home For Mother’s Day?
8th March 2010
Tiny twosome thrown out with the rubbish
A member of the public arrived at The Mayhew Animal Home in London after they had gone to throw out their rubbish and found a small box by the bins; with faint squeaking coming from inside.
On opening the box, they found two baby guinea pigs huddling together, callously thrown out with the rubbish to die.
The resident of the block of flats in Ladbroke Grove brought the orphaned animals to The Mayhew so they could be seen by a vet immediately.
Mayhew vets have aged them at only two months and staff at the Home named the tiny twosome Addison and Montgomery.
The Mayhew contacted small pet rescue specialists Furry Friends in Coulsdon, Surrey, who arranged to come and collect the diminutive pair and place them in a guinea pig foster home until a permanent home can be found.
Mayhew CEO, Caroline Yates, said
“It is sadly not uncommon for us to have members of the public bring in pets that they have found in bags and boxes thrown out with the bins. Happily, these two were found in time and brought immediately to us and their lives were saved. We would certainly encourage any guinea pig fans to contact Furry Friends and give this tiny twosome a home in time for mother’s day”
Guinea pig foster carer, Anna said
"These two guineas were very nervous when they first came into foster, but it’s not surprising after the ordeal they have been through. I have been working very closely with them and they have come out of their shell quickly and are a friendly pair. It is hard to believe how cruel someone can be to two defenseless animals."
